    The last supper

    before school term kicks in!

Cherine, Jolyn and I decided that we deserve some good ol’ supper to put a proper end to our school hols!

Located along busy Jalan Besar Road, Swee Choon is certainly one good place to satisfy your dim sum cravings even into the wee hours of the night. Imagine our usual morning to afternoon delicacies such as Har Kow, Siew Mai and Chee Cheong Fun served piping hot at 3am! Now, where else can you get that?

Well known for its Xiao Long Bao, Char Siew Bao and Portuguese egg tarts , Swee Choon has been cooking and serving since 1962! For more info on Swee Choon, do click here!

Looking at their extensive menu, we were spoilt for choice. From Hong Kong Steamed Dim Sum to La Mian to Kitchen Special Cooked Dish to Desserts, Swee Choon certainly caters to everyone young and old!

Here is what we have ordered!

    Fried Custard Pumpkin

The outer crust is slightly crispy and elastic in the inside like niangao.Little oily. The filling is salted egg yolk custard.

    Swee Choon Mee-Suah Kueh

Really yummy with mee suah as its filling. No wonder its their signature dish! Must try.

Drunken Chicken in Shao Xing Wine

As the name suggests, its cold chicken soaked in wine. Appetising and its a must try!

    Prawn and Banana Fritter

    Shanghai Xiao Long Bao

Its my next choice after Din Tai Fung!

    Sichuan Chilli Oil Wanton

Those who love chilli oil wanton, you will love this too!

    Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun

    Har Kow

    Crispy Eggplant with Meat Floss

The eggplant is extremely light and its skin is crispy, unlike the usually wet and ‘slimy’ eggplant we usually have! If you are looking for a snack, this is it!

    Zha Jiang La Mian

Not very nice in my opinion :/

Ranging from $1.50 to $5.50, we spent slightly above $30 for table of 3.

If you are someone who is into ambience, design, comfort and service, Swee Choon might not make the cut. However, if you are looking purely at just having affordable dim sum, and at unearthly hours, then this is the place! Oh, and its better getting here by car.

All in all, its 3.5 /5 taukwas for Swee Choon!

Opening its doors at Craig Road in Jan 2010, Pavillion Restaurant is headed by Chef De Cuisine Chan Hwan Kee. Catering to dim sum and cantonese cuisine lovers, Pavillion has been in the limelight when Sunday Times Food Critic Wong Ah Yoke wrote about it. Now its our turn to give it a shot!

The dim sum is really good. Its what I call true dim sum with huge, succulent prawns in the siewmai, hargao, prawn and banana fritter, fried dumplings.. we got full real fast considering that dim sum is served in small portions! The xiaolongbao is bursting with soup so do eat it carefully.. ;D

The stir-fried scallops with floss is a light snack to start with, a little spicy. The lobster is just normal.. The ribs are tender but other than that, average.. didnt get to try the double boiled soup mentioned by Wong Ah Yoke though.. maybe another time!

The egg tart is not the crusty kind, more of a tart as the name says. Its a sweet finale to my experience at Pavillion!

Tucked away in the rich heritage of conserved shophouses in Club Street, Spizza offers some of the best thin-crust pizzas in town! Using only traditional methods of baking pizzas in wood-fired brick oven and importing the freshest ingredients from Italy, the dough is freshly made and kneaded every morning by Spizza’s dedicated chefs.

Spizza’s in-house menu offers a plethora of specialty wood-fired pizzas and a palatable range of soups, salads, appetisers, pasta and desserts. Its really a one-stop shop that satisfies all taste buds, even the pickiest of them all! For those with sweet tooth, there is ‘zara’, a pizza with melted chocolate, banana and almond flakes! Just the sound of it, makes my mouth water!!

Trying spizza for the first time, and having a craving for a heathier choice, I ordered ’ursula’, pizza with tomato, mascarpone, spinach, smoked Salmon and capers! Calling to all salmon lovers out there, this is a MUST-TRY! The thickness of the crust is just nice, not too thick nor thin with chunks of cream cheese which compliments really well with the smoked salmon! Fresh spinach and grounded pepper with olive oil completes the taste, totally irresistableee.

Loving seafood, my mom ordered ‘sofia’, pizza with tomato, mozzarella, shrimps, mussels, scallops, calamari and fresh basil! The crust is the same for other spizzas just with seafood toppings! Mom says its really good and she will be coming back for more!!

Spizza’s tagline: spizza for friends, is really an ideal place for gatherings in its rustic furnishings and warm ambience, its truly a great place for chill-outs with friends and family members. Catering to the health-conscious, vegetarians, meat lovers and even kids, you really have to come to Spizza not only for their fantastic pizzas but also to relax and catch up with your loved ones!

Do visit http://www.spizza.sg/ for MORE yummilicious pizzzzzas!
